I recently returned from a 10-night sailing onboard the Norwegian Star. This Norwegian Cruise Line vessel is over two decades old, and I was interested to see if this older ship is still capable of delivering an excellent cruise vacation. Our favorite time to go out onto the wrap-around deck was when the ship sailed into a port, as well as when the ship sailed away from a port. Something that really impressed me onboard Norwegian Star were the variety acts and other entertainment options. These variety acts were truly some of the best I’ve seen yet on a cruise, and we were talking about these performances long after we saw them. I appreciated that the two main dining rooms onboard Norwegian Star were very different and each offered a unique atmosphere and environment. Onboard many of Norwegian Cruise Line’s newer ships, such as Norwegian Encore, the main restaurants are nearly identical.

These two bars and lounges offer unique and yummy alcoholic drinks for adult guests to enjoy. Whether it is the wrap-around promenade deck or the jogging track, Norwegian Star has plenty of spaces for guests to catch some awesome views during their cruise. This was something we greatly appreciated and took advantage of.
Window Family Suite
Together, the two SuperStar ships were the Libra class, but then became the joint Dawn class. Norwegian Dawn followed Norwegian Star closely, debuting in 2002. Over its life, Norwegian Star has received extra attention in a variety of ways. In 2010, the ship was chartered to serve as lodging for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, though the deal was then canceled due to lack of lodging demand and costs. When it debuted, for example, it did not feature a casino and the layout and decor were both designed to appeal to Asia Pacific cruisers.
Cabins – Inside State Room
Most cruise lines do not conduct United Kingdom cruises during the fall and winter on a regular basis. Once we saw this itinerary and its reasonable price, we were sold and booked our adventure with the Norwegian Star. This ship is older, having been built .in 2001, but it is a great vessel that is more than capable of providing an excellent cruise vacation.

While Norwegian Star provides the usual fare during days at sea, such as bingo, arts and crafts, art auctions, wellness seminars, the real highlights of entertainment are the nightly shows. The "main event" each evening is held in the Stardust Theater, which features everything - from Broadway-style song-and-dance acts to variety shows.

The ship has a production team which consist of 3 lead female singers, 3 lead male singers and backup dancers. Our ship was scheduled to also visit the Isle of Man and Dublin, Ireland; however, we ended up missing these ports due to weather. Of course, this is the risk that one takes when selecting a United Kingdom or Northern Europe cruise during the fall and winter. While the ship is over two decades old, the staterooms look and feel very comfortable, up-to-date, and modern. This was the most affordable stateroom category, and this is true for many other sailings across other cruise lines. Topsiders Bar & Grill was a great quick-service space to enjoy lunch, as the line in the Garden Cafe can be quite long during peak lunch times.
